Strategy or Tragedy workshop

With a little planning and the right strategy to tackle the fisheries challenges of the future, iwi fishing businesses can avoid a tragedy. That was the theme of our fisheries workshop held in Wellington in early December and attended by iwi fisheries representatives from around the country. We explored themes and issues pertinent to Maori quota owners, the priorities for iwi fishing businesses, specific things that help Maori lead New Zealand fisheries and how Te Ohu Kaimoana can assist in meeting objectives. Thanks to everyone who attended the hui. All of the presentations can be downloaded from our website here. All speakers at the meeting stressed the need for iwi fishing businesses to collaborate for more successful results. Te Ohu will be developing this work as we renew our 5-year strategy to take Maori fisheries forward. To assist this we will conduct a survey of iwi early next year to get a better idea of your priorities in fisheries.
