Te Ohu Kaimoana director Maori Business Leader of the Year

Te Ohu Kaimoana director Robert McLeod (Ngati Porou) was recently named the Outstanding Maori Business Leader for 2006 by the University of Auckland Business School.

Rob, a champion of Maori engagement in commerce, influenced government policy as a member of the former Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission. He is now a director of Te Ohu Kaimoana and chairs Aotearoa Fisheries Limited and Sealord Group Limited. Rob also chairs the NZ Business Roundtable and has had a distinguished career as one of New Zealand's top tax practitioners.

Born in Waipiro Bay, Rob was named after his tipuna, the Ngati Porou chief Rapata Wahawaha. Both his parents are Ngati Porou, and his father was an officer in C Company of the Maori Battalion. He grew up in Gisborne and qualified in law and commerce in 1976.

Rob was chairman of Ernst & Young before his retirement from that firm in 2004 and was managing partner of Arthur Andersen for 10 years before that. His other directorships include Telecom, Skycity, ANZ National Bank, Tainui Group and several fisheries companies.
