New Chair for AFL, Sealord

In June this year, the chief executive of Aotearoa Fisheries Limited, Robin Hapi, was appointed executive chairman of the company and the chairman of Sealord Group Ltd in Nelson.

After steering AFL through its establishment phase, Rob McLeod resigned as the chairman of AFL and Sealord, as well as a director of Te Ohu Kaimoana, to take up the position of managing partner of Ernst and Young. The board of Te Ohu Kaimoana appointed Robin to replace him as chairman of AFL and Robin resigned as CEO, becoming the executive chairman until a new CEO could be appointed for AFL.

Subsequently, the board of AFL then appointed Robin as the chairman of Sealord, having been a director of that board since 1998.

“The appointment of Mr Hapi to the chairmanship of AFL and Sealord is a natural decision for Te Ohu Kaimoana. Mr Hapi has been the CEO of AFL since it was established in 2004. He was previously the CEO of the former Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission and has been on the Sealord board since 1998,” Te Ohu Kaimoana chairman Archie Taiaroa said.

“Sealord is a global seafood company with worldwide fishing, processing and marketing networks. We believe Mr Hapi will be able to lead us through the next stage of global growth to further secure Sealord as New Zealand's leading seafood company.”
