AFL increases ownership in abalone

Aotearoa Fisheries Limited, 100% owned by iwi organisations, recently announced its acquisition of Ocean Ranch (New Zealand). In June, AFL chief executive, Jeremy Fleming, and Dino Focas announced that an agreement had been reached for AFL to acquire the Focas’ family interests in Ocean Ranch. Mr Fleming said the acquisition would build onthe companies’ 12-year partnership in Palmerston Northbased Prepared Foods Limited where Ocean Ranch has managed AFL’s paua harvesting since 1996. AFL’s Prepared Foods division is a major supplier of abalone into Asia and the acquisition gives AFL the supply base needed to continue to grow the business in that part of the world.
