Willow-Jean Downs (Ngapuhi) from Moerewa, Tai Tokerau, has recently started work in the legal division at Te Ohu Kaimoana. Willow-Jean has completed a Bachelor of Laws and Arts (majoring in Maori language and culture) and a Post-graduate Diploma in Maori and Pacific Development Waikato University.
Willow-Jean said that when the position at Te Ohu Kaimoana came up, it was an opportunity and experience not to be missed. “While the position involved moving further away from my whanau in the north to a colder and windier place, I am excited by the fact that I have the opportunity to work with many iwi throughout the country including those of Te Tai Tokerau,” she says.
“I know that one day I will look back and be proud to have been a part of this history-making for Maori and Aotearoa.”
