
We welcome back Brenda Wallace who worked at the former Fisheries Commission in 2004 and in 2002 when consultation over allocation was in full swing. Brenda has returned on a part-time basis to help us with our document management system and work on communications and publications.
Ben Potaka has joined our policy group on a three-month contract working in the Asset Allocation and Transfer team. His role will be to assist the Manager in dealing with ACE rounds and quota queries. Ben has been a Te Ohu Kai Moana scholar and has a LLB/BCA from Victoria University . He is from Te Ati Haunui a Paparangi and Te Whanau a Apanui. We are delighted that he has chosen to take on this role with us.
Callers to Te Ohu Kaimoana have been greeted by a new voice lately. Natasha Wawatai recently took on a full-time position as our receptionist. Natasha is from Ngati Porou and brings with her abundant energy and enthusiasm.

Claire Nesus, from Ngati Porou, has joined Te Ohu Kaimoana as the new Capability Development Advisor. Formerly a Senior Policy Analyst at TPK, Claire has a strong background in developing policies focused on whanau and hapu capacity and capability. More recently she has been developing policies in the international, cultural and heritage, and natural resource sectors. A former TOKM student in the mid to late 1990s, she completed undergraduate and masters qualifications in Marine Science through Otago University. Claire is looking forward to applying her skills to this role.
Raina Meha (Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Makino, Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Aitanga ā Mahaki) is from Rotoiti in the Bay of Plenty and has recently joined the policy team at Te Ohu Kaimoana. Raina has a Master of Philosophy in Māori studies and her background includes working in central and local government agencies, aid development in South Africa and with Kowhai Consulting at Waitomo. Raina has held a range of policy, research and monitoring positions. She is active in whanau and hapu activities and is chairperson of the Tapuaeharuru Marae Committee. Her interests include indigenous development, gender issues, tribal research and waiata moteatea.
