About the Electoral College
The sole function of the electoral college - Te Kawai Taumata - is to elect and remove directors from Te Ohu Kaimoana.
The first seven Te Ohu Kaimoana directors were appointed by the Minister of Māori Affairs in November 2004. The next opportunity for new directors to be appointed will be in November 2006.
Te Kawai Taumata will consist of up to 11 members. Ten will represent iwi groupings. The remaining representative will be chosen by national Māori organisations. (See the diagram below for details.)

Te Ohu will establish a meeting of Te Kawai Taumata by making a written request to iwi and Māori organisations listed in Schedule 3. This will be done 6 months before some of the current appointments expire.
