We have had ongoing engagement in the Convention of Biological Diversity process. On July 23, we provided our response to the Secretariat of the Convention of Biological Diversity on the draft documents for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

Our response builds on previous feedback to the Secretariat in April 2019 and to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in early 2020. Our involvement in this process seeks to ensure that global biodiversity targets don’t unintentionally undermine the Māori Fisheries Settlement by being too prescriptive. We also promote the participation and recognition of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in the processes.
