Vacancy – Kaitohu (Director)

Directors are appointed by Te Kāwai Taumata, the electoral body established under the Maori Fisheries Act 2004, with the sole function of appointing and removing directors of Te Ohu Kai Moana Trustee Limited.

Te Ohu Kai Moana is a charitable trust established through the Māori Fisheries Act 2004. The Trust is managed by a Corporate Trustee, which is tasked with acting as the eyes, ears and mouthpiece for the collective interests in fishing and fisheries-related activities of the recognised 58 mandated iwi organisations of Aotearoa.

The Board

The role of the Board is to provide the leadership, governance, guidance, and accountability for the performance of Te Ohu Kai Moana Trustee Limited, in particular but not limited to:

• Strategy – development, articulation, and execution
• Organisation – establish vision, purpose, and values
• Accountability – fulfil our responsibility under the Maori Fisheries Act
• Innovation and leadership

Eligibility

To be eligible to be a Director of Te Ohu Kai Moana Trustee Limited, a person must:

• Have Whakapapa Māori;
• Having regard to the purpose of Te Ohu Kaimoana, contribute to collective commercial experience and business skills of the Board and be well versed in tikanga Māori;
• Not, within the previous 2 years, have been a member or alternate member of Te Kawai Taumata; and
• Not be an employee of any member of Te Ohu Kaimoana Group.

Skills and Attributes

In addition to the general eligibility requirements candidates must have a good understanding of the Māori Fisheries Settlement and the political environment within which fisheries operates.
