Due to the recent recovery of a body by the Sealord vessel Aukaha, Ngāti Hinewaka, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa and Rangitane o Wairarapa have declared a rāhui 7 to 10 nautical miles off the coast of Cape Palliser. The rāhui will apply to all vessels fishing within 2 nautical miles of the area.
Representatives from Ngāti Hinewaka, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa and Rangitane o Wairarapa, Moana New Zealand, Sealord and Te Ohu Kaimoana are currently arranging travel to the area where the body was recovered to bless the site.
The tangata whenua of Wairarapa have determined that the rāhui will be in place until the necessary tikanga and kawa have been observed.
