He aituā, kua hinga te tōtara o te waonui a Tāne – kua mate a Norm Dewes (Ngāti Kahungunu) (MNZM). We are deeply saddened to hear of Norm’s passing on Sunday; a revered, respected and renowned leader within Māoridom. He was a founder of both Te Rūnanga o Ngā Maata Waka and the National Urban Māori Authority, former Chair of Te Pūtahitanga, former Chair of Tapuwae Roa (Te Pūtea Whakatupu Trust) and a great contributing partner to Ngāi Tahu, particularly in regard to his contribution to helping communities post the Christchurch earthquakes.
Norm’s tangi will be held today at Ngā Hau e Wha Marae (Wednesday 3 January) and he will then return to Wairoa. Our thoughts are with Norm’s partner Linda and whānau whanui at this sad and challenging time. Ka nui te aroha ki a koutou.
E te Rangatira – harere, haere, haere atu rā Norm. Moe mai, moe mai, moe mai rā.
