Maori Fisheries Act Amendment Resources

The Maori Fisheries Act 2004 is being amended as part of the statutory review process that began in 2015. This Act established Te Ohu Kaimoana, Te Pūtea Whakatupu Trust, Te Wai Māori Trust, and Aotearoa Fisheries Limited (trading as Moana NZ), and outlines the functions of those organisations, and the allocation of fisheries settlement assets to iwi.

An exposure draft of the Amendment Bill has been released by the Ministry for Primary Industries to Mandated Iwi Organisations for targeted engagement on the resolutions. If you would like a copy of this exposure draft, please email us below.

As a resource for iwi, and to support this engagement and the subsequent parliamentary processes, Te Ohu Kaimoana has collated key documents from the review process.

Te Ohu Kaimoana is here to support iwi to prepare their responses, please email TeHau.White@teohu.maori.nz or call 027 211 6777 for more information.
