Te Ohu Kaimoana is proud to announce the appointment of Director Bella Takiari-Brame to the Board of Aotearoa Fisheries Limited (trading as Moana New Zealand). The appointment will be in effect from 1 December 2023, and Bella will succeed the then vacated position of Rangimarie Hunia whose term as a Director of Te Ohu Kaimoana expires in November 2023. Bella’s term will be for a period of three-years.

“Bella has been a tremendous asset during her tenure on the Board of Te Ohu Kaimoana, so we are really pleased to see her appointed to Moana New Zealand. Bella’s vast professional experience in accountancy and iwi governance, including her role as iwi Chair of Post Settlement Governance Entity Te Nehenehenui, will add exceptional rigour to the Board table of Moana New Zealand.” says Chair Pahia Turia.

We are also proud to announce the reappointments of both Bella and Pahia Turia as Directors on the Board of Te Ohu Kaimoana for a further term of four more years, in addition to Wednesday’s announcement regarding the reappointment of Alternate Director, Maru Samuels.

“This is a really exciting time for Te Ohu Kaimoana. We are conscious of our purpose and are dedicated to delivering what iwi expect of us through our traditional duties; but we see that as baseline. If we are to continue to make progress, and to hold space for our mokopuna so that they have the same opportunities as us to enjoy a meaningful relationship with Tangaroa and have careers in this space, then we are going to have to challenge our thinking and approach.” Says Turia.

“The combination of the re-appointments of Bella and Maru alongside our current Alternate Director Kim, and the new appointments of Gail, Nicole, Bayden Dion and Dean create an in-depth and diverse base of knowledge, views and expertise, ensuring a strong future for Te Ohu Kaimoana”.
