16 March 2020
Due to announcements from the Government in the weekend regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus), Te Ohu Kaimoana wishes to advise of the cancellation this year’s Māori Fisheries Conference, scheduled for 25 March, the Māori Fisheries Wānanga scheduled for Tuesday 24 March and Te Ohu Kai Moana Group Hui-ā-Tau (Annual General Meeting), scheduled for Thursday 26 March 2020.
“We are disappointed that these great kaupapa cannot take place this year, but the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, especially our kaumatua must come first” advised Dion Tuuta, Chief Executive of Te Ohu Kaimoana. “Cases in Aotearoa remain low, as does the risk of widespread infection – however we must take any action within our power to ensure that we do not add to the situation.”
The Trust will begin refunding registration costs to attendees as of Tuesday 16 March. Due to the high volume of registrations, some refunds may not be reversed until 27 March 2020. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to our attendees, speakers, suppliers and sponsors.
Te Ohu Kaimoana management is currently investigating alternative hosting options for the Hui-ā-Tau (Annual General Meeting) of Te Ohu Kai Moana Group (e.g. video, teleconference) and will advise further on the matter in due course.
