This pānui provides you with an update on the response of Te Ohu Kaimoana to the Fast-track Approvals Bill. In our last pānui, which can be found here, we provided an update on the Bill and noted our initial concerns with the potential implications this Bill may have in terms of the existing Māori fisheries and aquaculture settlements. We also advised iwi that upon receiving a copy of the draft Bill, we would review and endeavour to provide iwi with a draft response for the Select Committee.

Response of Te Ohu Kaimoana to the Select Committee

We have been working to a short and focused timeline to produce this draft and we are now in a position to provide this to iwi. Below you can find a link to this response alongside an accompanying one-pager with key questions we are seeking feedback from iwi on.

Because of the length of this draft, we have put together this one-pager to direct your thinking, especially for those of you who are unable to take the time to review the draft in full. This one-pager asks questions for your consideration, and the answers to these questions will inform our finalised draft.
