Te Ohu Kaimoana is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Tā Wira Gardiner.
Tā Wira served as Deputy Chair for Te Ohu Kaimoana and Director for Te Pūtea Whakatupu in 2004 – 2005. His leadership and contribution to Māoridom and to the trusts established by the Māori Fisheries Settlement was significant and we are grateful.
In addition to Tā Wira’s contribution to Māori Fisheries, he also reached highest levels in a number of careers. He had extensive experience in governance roles for crown entities, leadership roles across public and private business, and played a major role in consultations with iwi. Tā Wira was also a writer and published books on the history of the 28th Māori Battalion and kapa haka among others.
Our thoughts are with te whanau pani.
